Summer fun? Are you ready for a challenge? If you have children, the thought of summer may be exciting – no more lunches to pack, no early mornings, no homework. It also may be a bit daunting – too many sibling squabbles, too many cries of “I’m bored”. And if you don’t have children, summer may just mean it’s hot and your air conditioning bill is too high. But what if summer was fun and stimulating and filled with art?
I previously wrote on some ways to include art in your summer. This year, I want to build on that by honing in on a fun activity that’s perfect for all ages and stages.
City Wide Scavenger Hunt
Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt? Did you know that some cities have actually started art scavenger hunts throughout their town public spaces? Local artists donate art, then clues are posted on the city’s social media accounts, and whoever finds the art piece first gets to go home with it. Now, if you happen to live in one of those cities, that’s great! Go find some art! If you don’t, what about contacting some local artists and starting a city-wide scavenger hunt of your own?
Public Art Scavenger Hunt
More and more cities are developing public art displays. We’ve even featured some on our #FunFriday series on Facebook and Instagram. See if your city has a guide to public art and go on a quest to find it.
Museum Scavenger Hunt
If you live in Florida like me, summer fun means air conditioning. And guess what? Museums are air conditioned 🙂 But don’t just wander aimlessly (though that’s good too). What about creating your own museum scavenger hunt? Many museums will actually have one available for their younger patrons, so don’t hesitate to ask at the information desk. And if you need a little inspiration, I’ve created one you can download and take with you to any museum. Just click here to download our museum scavenger hunt.
Let’s make summer fun a community project. When you go on an art scavenger hunt, either one you created or that your local town or museum has, share your experience here and we can all enjoy the fun!
